Terms of Service

Effective 2026-09-05

These Terms govern your use of the Riffle website and any submissions you make through it (the "Service").

1. Who we are

Riffle ("Riffle," "we," "us") is a reading and writing social platform operated by its founding team. These Terms govern your use of the Riffle website and any submissions you make through it (the "Service").

2. Accepting these Terms

By creating an account or submitting content, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

3. Eligibility and age

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are between 13 and 17, you may only use the Service with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.

4. Your account

You provide an email address and date of birth to create an account. You're responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity under your account. Provide accurate information and keep it current.

5. Your submissions and the rights you give us

You keep ownership of the content you submit ("Submissions"). By submitting, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, reproduce, adapt, publish, and display your Submissions for the purpose of operating and developing the Service, including selecting Submissions to feature in the Riffle app's content pool. This license lets us run the Service; it does not transfer ownership to us and does not cover marketing or advertising use, which is governed separately by Section 6.

6. Marketing use of submissions (optional, separate checkbox)

Use of your Submissions for marketing and advertising is entirely optional and requires your separate, affirmative consent through a dedicated checkbox distinct from your acceptance of these Terms. If, and only if, you check that marketing box, you grant us permission to use your Submissions (and excerpts) in marketing and advertising materials across any channel. You do not need to agree to this to use the Service, and declining will not affect whether your Submission is selected for the app. You can withdraw this permission for future use by contacting us, though we may not be able to pull back materials already published.

7. Update and announcement emails (optional, separate checkbox)

Separately from the marketing consent in Section 6, you may choose to receive update and announcement emails about Riffle, such as launch news, new features, and other promotional messages, by checking a dedicated, separate checkbox. This is entirely optional, is not required to use the Service, and does not affect whether your Submission is selected for the app. If you opt in, every such email will include a way to unsubscribe, and you may opt out at any time. Note that we may still send you non-promotional messages related to your account and your use of the Service (for example, confirming your submission or responding to your requests) regardless of this choice.

8. What you promise about your submissions

You represent that your Submissions are your own original work, that you have the right to submit them, and that they don't infringe anyone else's rights or break any law. You agree not to submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit involving minors, or that violates others' privacy or intellectual property.

9. Content we choose

We decide, at our discretion, which Submissions to feature or include in the app. Submitting content does not guarantee it will be selected, published, or compensated. Submissions are made without expectation of payment unless we agree otherwise in writing.

10. Removing content and accounts

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms. You may stop using the Service and request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us.

11. Service provided "as is"

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Riffle and its team members will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $100.

13. Indemnification

You agree to cover losses and legal costs we incur arising from your Submissions or your violation of these Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

15. Changes

We may update these Terms. If we make material changes, we'll take reasonable steps to notify you. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
